Mom When Will You be back?

I was 11 years when my mom was leaving to Amritsar,

I asked her for when will she be returning,
I was happy to hear “Next Sunday my child”
Though I knew she’s lying and she herself don’t know when will she see me again,
I just had to smile.

She left home, I ran upstairs my room and cried, because we never had an idea of how will she live,
I knew none of us were sure even if she will return,
I just had to smile.

It was a Friday noon,
With family looking at the news,
I wasn’t sure even if my mom will be shot in that firing.
I knew we were all not sure about her life,
I just had to smile.

It was a Saturday morning
And all of us in the class had to speak about our mom.
I heard 49 voices, speaking Doctor, Engineer, Teacher, House Maker, Business women, and more, but I couldn’t see them high like me.

I had tears my eyes and proudness in my voice, though I couldn’t be sure even if I can her next time or last Tuesday was the final time, I still proudly told she is a Lieutenant General in the military for the Wagah Border.
I wasn’t sure even if I’ll see her ever again,
I just had to smile.

I just told, I’m not sure when I’ll see my mom again, or if I’ll never see her again, but I’m proud of my mom I said, I could see some eyes with tears and that moment held me high in pride.
I wasn’t sure even if I’ll see her ever again,
I just had to smile.

And then it was the Sunday my mom told she’s going to return, I waited for her, I waited for her, I couldn’t see her our home way, I cried.
I wasn’t sure even if she’ll return or if I’ll ever see her again
I just had to smile.

The week passed,
The month passed,
I couldn’t contact my mom,
Playing the NEWS channel
I could see bomb lasts, firings
I could do nothing rather pray
I could just pray god to save my mom,
Rather save all the parents, and children of citizens like us!

My prayers weren’t heard,
My tears couldn’t stop,
My pride couldn’t lower,
My love for my mom never end,
She was shot, she was no more.
Her body wasn’t shown to me,
I wished no child be so painful,
But I was proud.
All that I could do for her body is SALUTE!

This week I had to again, speak about my mom,
I was tensed of what should I speak of someone who isn’t alive,
I went boldly,
I began “past 2 weeks was when I saw my mom in my home,
Past week was the last time I saw my mom in front of me on the television,
with prayers if she will return,
She was shot in a firing, I’m proud my mom gave her life to the nation,
I cried, I gave a salute, I was broke
But I just had to smile and stand stiff for her body with national anthem playing”
I again saw 49 friends, my teacher an myself with tears.
I just had to smile!

Mom, I’m proud of you
Mom, I’ll always love you
Mom, I’ll forever salute you
